When I first launched my brand, PAT McGRATH LABS, it was designed to inspire self-expression and individuality. I dedicate this honour in tribute to Makeup Artists everywhere, I adore each and every one of you. — Pat McGrath, aka “The Mother of Makeup,” reveals via Instagram that she was among the Brits to be granted a damehood as part of the Queen’s New Year Honours List. Dame McGrath was previously named an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) in 2014 for her work within the fashion and beauty industries. She has helped launched luxury cosmetic brands from concept to development and created beauty looks for countless runway shows, advertisements, and editorial spreads for more than two decades. In 2017, British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful named McGrath beauty editor-at-large of the magazine in 2017. A year prior, McGrath launched her eponymous billion-dollar beauty brand. Pat McGrath Labs made waves in the beauty industry for catering to skin-tones across an extremely wide spectrum, which was unprecedented at the time of its launch. The fact that she is the first makeup artist to receive the honor of damehood wasn’t lost on McGrath, and she also paid tribute to makeup artists across the world while reacting publicly to the news.
