Get the Look: Taraji P. Henson’s Messy Braid for the 2018 Emmys
When it comes to making a moment on the red carpet, Taraji P. Henson rarely falters. Much of that is the work of her tried and true glam team, which includes stylist Jason Bolden, makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff, and hairstylist Tym Wallace. We caught up with Wallace to get the details on the messy braid he created for Henson for last night’s 2018 Emmy Awards.
The “unpolished” hairstyle was the perfect complement for the Giambatista Valli floral, beaded, high-low gown Bolden styled for Henson.
“For Taraji’s hairstyle, my inspiration came from a whimsical fairytale which had a lot to do with the dress,” said Wallace in press materials. “The dress was very detailed with flowers and we wanted to complement that with the hairstyle.”
Wallace used Suave Professionals products to coif her hair. Below, he gives the inside scoop so you can recreate the look at home.
- I started by prepping the hair with the Suave Professionals Almond + Shea Butter Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner, this moisturizing wash and care system leaves the hair feeling nourished and with a wonderful long-lasting scent.
- On towel dried hair, use the Suave Professionals Captivating Curls Mouse Cream and the FHI Heat Platform Nano Salon Pro 2000 blow dryer to diffuse and set the curl.
- Next, I took random sections and wrapped the hair around the 3/4" FHI Heat Professional Curling Iron to define the curl pattern.
- I finalized the look by creating a low messy braid, making it really textured with some face-framing tendrils.
Sounds easy enough. Will you get the look?
