Being a woman with curves and a little extra skin can prove to be difficult for many women living in our society, especially with our limited view of beauty. For over 60 years, Dove has been on a mission to make women feel beautiful beyond the “limited and unattainable” beauty standards that are so narrow that their research shows that only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful.
Dove’s vision is for women to view beauty as a “source of confidence, not anxiety.”To double down on their commitment, they’ve partnered with an award-winning television producer, author, and screenwriter, Shonda Rhimes, “to help the next generation of women develop a positive relationship with the way they look-helping them raise their self-esteem and realize their full potential.”
Dove selected Shonda as their first ambassador for Dove Beauty Productions. As an activist for beauty and diversity in her own work, Shonda gladly partnered with them to inspire women to be themselves and expand the definition of beauty. When Shonda was asked why she joined the team, she said, “One of the big reasons why I tell stories, real stories that reflect the real world, stories that show us as we truly are, and I think it’s particularly important for women and girls to know that they have an amazing story as well.”
