A 'Gravely Ill' Aretha Franklin Has Been Hospitalized

Aretha Franklin has been hospitalized for an unknown illness.

Music legend Aretha Franklin is "gravely ill," said her family to Detroit's WDIV-TV, and she is receiving care at a hospital in the Michigan city.

Franklin, who is also known as the Queen of Soul, is reportedly surrounded by "family and people close to her."

WDIV-TV anchor Evrod Cassimy confirmed the news of the 76 year old's condition, after an earlier report said Franklin was in the company of her family and friends.

No one realized that Franklin's last public performance would be August 2017 at Philadelphia’s Mann Center. In November 2017, she performed at Elton John's AIDS Foundation in New York. However, in March 2018, she canceled two concerts in New Jersey. She had announced in early-2017 that she would retire, but would perform at "some select things." Her last performance in Detroit was in June 2017 during an outdoor festival. Franklin ended her set by cryptically asking the audience to "Please keep me in your prayers."
