Netflix's crazy "tail" of Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, big cats, and criminal acts continues on Investigation Discovery.

You would have had to live under a rock the past weeks if you haven’t heard of Netflix’s Tiger King, one of the most talked about topics of the quarantine besides the coronavirus itself. While the multiple-part documentary cements Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage as the definitive tiger king, it also puts his rival Carole Baskin on the throne as the indisputable tiger queen, dividing fans among the two camps. Now Investigation Discovery (ID) is seeking to answer the questions brought out by Tiger King and give viewers the investigation they didn’t see with Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic, which was recently green-lit and is expected to air later in 2020.

“Viewers are understandably riveted by Netflix’s Tiger King, but the millions of true crime fans around the world were left wanting more,” said Henry Schleiff, Group President ID, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel, and Destination America.  “ID is the perfect place to find the inevitable sequel to this drama – featuring a missing husband, a hit man, and the illegal business of exotic animals. It's time to let the cat out of the bag and address the lingering questions that viewers demand be answered.”

The main lingering question centers around Joe Exotic’s accusation that Baskin allegedly killed her wealthy husband Don Lewis and fed his corpse to a tiger. Baskin presents herself as a selfless animal defender campaigning against the big cat “collectors” across the United States, in the documentary. But some, including Joe Exotic and fellow animal “collector” Doc Antle, don’t buy her innocence.

“Is she a selfless crusader and protector of animals, who found unimaginable strength despite the mysterious disappearance of her husband?” asks ID in its press release. “Or are we witnessing Carole Baskin’s master plan finally take effect? Despite her claims of innocence, did she orchestrate the disappearance of Don Lewis to seize control of his fortune, consolidate power[,] and lay waste to her foes?”

ID is going to the only person who is talking — Joe Exotic, himself. Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic will reveal “the secrets only Joe knows, the exclusive footage that has never been shown[,] and the search to answer the one question every person in America is asking themselves right now”: Is Baskin responsible for the disappearance of her husband, Don Lewis, even though she denies it?

The ID special won’t leave Joe Exotic off the hook, though, and hopes to also answer: “What skeletons is Joe still hiding within his untold past? Is his conviction truly justified? Who is Jeff Lowe and what does the FBI really know? What secrets lie hidden within Doc Antle’s walls?”

Since ID just gave the green light to Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic, a premiere date hasn’t been set, but it will be released later this year. We’re sure you’ll be waiting with bated breath just like we are.
