Heard on the Street: Tamera Mowry-Housley Isn’t Returning to ‘The Real’

The Real has lost another of its original co-hosts just before the daytime talk show's seventh season.

“For seven years, my home and heart has been at The Real. The friendships that I've made there will last a lifetime, and the people [who] I've had the blessing to interview have changed my life for the better. I'm so proud of what all the ladies and I have accomplished there, including two well-deserved NAACP Image Awards and a Daytime Emmy. However, all good things must come to an end, and it's with a bittersweet smile that I announce that I am moving on from The Real. To my fellow hosts, I love you, I will miss you, and I will always be there for you. Thank you for teaching me, supporting me, and loving all of me. Sisters forever. I'll be rooting for you, as I look forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of my life.”

— Tamera Mowry-Housley revealed in an Instagram post on July 13th that she won’t be returning to the daytime talk show The Real, which has aired on FOX for six seasons. She is the second co-host to leave The Real this year and the third co-host to leave in the history of the talk show, after Amanda Seales announced her departure in June and Tamar Braxton departed in 2016. Loni Love, Adrienne Houghton, and Jeannie Mai are the show’s remaining co-hosts. Mowry-Housley, who recently turned 42 with her twin sister Tia Mowry, noted in the caption of her Instagram post that she hadn’t meant to make the announcement while grieving for her friend Naya Rivera, but wanted to get ahead of news reports. “I had NO intention to talk about this today, especially in light of the news of my dear friend Naya, but now some reports are coming out and I'd rather you hear it from me first,” wrote the former child star turned talk show host. Before making the revelation about her departure, Mowry-Housley posted a tribute to Rivera, and captioned a photo of the two on the set of The Real:

“Can’t believe I’m writing this. My heart. So many emotions. So many memories. My mind did not want to accept this. My sweet Naya. I love you. Will always love you. I’ll never forget your sweet smile, your amazing voice, and your warmth and love that has always welcomed me. I knew as early as 9 years old you were going to grace us with so much talent and so much beauty. I’m so grateful to have been blessed with your presence for over 20 years. You took my breath away and always will. Another angel has gained her wings. My heart goes out to the Rivera family.”
