Garcelle Beauvais Is First Black Woman to Hold Diamond on ’RHOBH'

@garcelle

Finally, Black Girl Magic is coming to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for season 10.

You know what The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills used to have in common with The Real Housewives of New York, The Real Housewives of Orange County, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and The Real Housewives of Dallas? Not one Black woman has ever been featured as a cast member. Heck, it often seems Black women don’t even exist in the worlds of New York City, Orange County, New Jersey, and Dallas when watching these shows. But we’re used to not being represented in entertainment, and were sometimes grateful no Black woman was caught up in serious violations of girl code, a cancer fraud, a mortgage scam that led to prison time, a carnie behaving badly, and of course Lucygate. So with an anthropological glance and desire to see how the other half lives, we tuned in to the Housewives franchise, assuming Bravo and Andy Cohen were content with segregating the Housewives and complaints were falling on deaf ears. However, it seems the powers that be were listening and nearly nine years after the first episode of the series aired, a Black woman is joining the all-white cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Actor and former model Garcelle Beauvais will join RHOBH for its upcoming 10th season. The mother of three boys acknowledged the impact of becoming the first Black woman to join the series in a statement to Bravo’s The Daily Dish.

“I am excited and proud to be joining the cast of such a wildly popular and beloved show like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. As a working actor who has been in the industry for some time, it’s exhilarating to have the opportunity to delve into a new chapter in the entertainment spectrum. As the first African American Housewife in the Beverly Hills franchise, I am honored and humbled by this awesome opportunity to exemplify the fact that Black Girl Magic lives and thrives in every zip code!” Beauvais said in the statement. “Already being intimately familiar with the spotlight of Hollywood, my journey of successes and trials has already been chronicled and shared with my many loyal supporters around the world. The continual encouragement, support and yes, even at times, criticism, have helped make me the dynamic woman I am today. I’m excited to share the many ongoing daily surprises, laughs and joys of being a working mother in today’s crazy world. The hustle is R-E-A-L! No games, all heart and a little dash of fashion-filled sass is what you’ll get when you step into my sphere…and I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

Beauvais joins “diamond-holders” Lisa Rinna, Erika Girardi, Kyle Richards, Denise Richards, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, and fellow newbie Sutton Stracke.

Beauvais and Rinna seem to know each other from the entertainment industry. Rinna expressed her delight with the news in her Instagram Stories. “We go back even further than I remember,” she captioned one photo. “Congrats!”

If you’re wondering whether Beauvais can bring the drama like the other Housewives, including Atlanta and Potomac, she once infamously emailed her former husband’s entire company to reveal his extramarital affair. (Camille Grammer-Meyer, who?) So yeah, we can’t wait to see Garcelle Beauvais cradling a diamond in her hand as a cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
