TV One released a preview and two clips for its original film The Bobby DeBarge Story, which highlights the career and tribulations of the eldest DeBarge and lead singer of the band Switch.
Roshon Fegan, whom you may recognize as abusive gospel-pop singer Isaiah Hambrick in Greenleaf, has taken on the title role. Tyra Ferrell (White Men Can’t Jump, Poetic Justice) plays “Mama DeBarge,” Etterlene DeBarge. Bruno Rose plays El DeBarge, and Adrian Marcel plays James DeBarge. Big Boi stepped in as Berry Gordy, and singer Lloyd took on the role of Switch member Gregory Williams.
Russ Parr directed The Bobby DeBarge Story, which was executive produced by Eric Tomosunas and Teri DeBarge.
“The movie explores the tumultuous life of the former lead singer of the ‘70s R&B/Funk Band Switch, also the eldest sibling of the world-famous pop group DeBarge. Despite his success in music, the iconic falsetto found his life in peril as he struggled with fame and fortune while coping with the memories of his dysfunctional childhood.”
The Bobby DeBarge Story premieres on June 29th at 8 p.m. on TV One. Will you tune in or are you passing on this film?
