What is an Airball in Basketball?

Airball - (aka brick) A missed shot that fails to touch the rim or the backboard

Origin: The Oxford English dictionary cites the first use of the term "air ball", and credits its birth to The Daily Review (Hayward, California) 1976.

  • January 29, "Cal State, four times lofting air balls at an orange basket that may as well have been painted invisible." The phrase caught traction and Duke was the school with the student-cheering section loud enough to give it its current power.

Straight, No Chaser - If somebody does this, they should be embarrassed. Lord knows I would be.
