That Time a 17 Year Old Girl Struck Out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig

“They are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day.” – Babe Ruth, on women in baseball

On April 2, 1931, left-handed pitcher Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back-to-back in only seven pitches total. After striking out Ruth and Gehrig, Mitchell walked the next batter and was pulled from the game.

Ruth wasn't so happy that he struck out as you can see in his body language (upper right video clip): http://www.rejectedprincesses.com/princesses/jackie-mitchell
